Quilt Coat CARE

When I designed our quilt coats, I wanted to create something equally cozy and stylish - something you could snuggle up in on the couch when you’re under the weather or throw on over a sweater and jeans as a chic statement-maker. A coat that keeps you warm while you walk your dog down the block or the perfect layer to accompany you on your next adventure. A coat to live life in.

But life can be messy. And for me, there’s nothing worse than a “dry clean only” tag on a favorite item of clothing. Which is why I made sure our quilt coats could be machine washable.

When you wash your quilt coat for the first time, it transforms from a crisp finish to that signature quilt crinkle that we love so much here at Vacilando. The linen cotton softens and breaks in — with each wash, it gets softer and more cozy. The coat keeps getting better with age, just like a good pair of denim.

If you love a crisp coat and don’t mind heading to the dry cleaner from time to time, then by all means, our coat can be dry cleaned. But if you crave that soft, slightly crinkled quilt texture, then follow the steps below to care for your quilt coat. These same care recommendations go for our bed quilts (aside from the ironing — that’s not necessary).

Step 1

Wash quilt coat by itself on delicate in cold water with a mild detergent.

Step 2

Carefully take coat out of washer and transfer to dryer (wet coats are heavy and if the weight isn’t fully supported, it can pop seams or quilting).

Step 3

Dry on delicate or low heat until the coat is damp. Lay flat to finish drying.

Step 4

Once your coat is nearly dry, iron on the highest heat setting to press out any creases or wrinkles. Focus on pressing the collar smooth as well as the pockets and pocket lining as those two areas seem to get the most out of shape during washing.

Step 5

Wear and repeat!
