  • Just a short walk away from the Frankish castle is the Church of Agios Konstantinos, built on the site of an archaic temple to Athena at the top of the city’s ancient acropolis. Little remains of the temple, but the foundational slab is still present and pieces of the temple have been incorporated into the modern church, most notably the Grecian columns which support a row of arches along one side of the building, as well as the Frankish castle. The architectural motifs of this church are present in the Parikia designs and echo throughout the collection – the arches and columns, the step structure of the bell tower, and the stones scattered and embedded within the white outer walls. The site looks west over the Aegean Sea and the bay of Parikia, offering beautiful views of the sunset.
